One of the great treats in doing the Hitting the Books blog this season has been the chance to discuss books with my broadcast cohorts. This week I sat down with Dick Bremer, the voice of the Minnesota Twins, to discuss his favorite.

Dick has been with the Twins for 30 years and is a St Paul native. Rich in humor and voice, he graciously sat with me to talk books.

One thing is clear from this season of blogs: World War II novels and history continue to be extremely popular with readers.

Dick's favorite is "The Eagle Has Landed," which was described this way by the Guardian newspaper:

"Within the space of a single week in 1975, Harry Patterson's life was transformed. It had started in pretty much the same way as every previous week of the past 15 years, with Patterson supplementing his day job as a college lecturer in Leeds by writing moderately successful thrillers in his spare time; it ended with the publication of "The Eagle Has Landed," about a plot to kidnap Churchill, written under the pseudonym of Jack Higgins."

Thus began a writing success story that has drawn reader Dick Bremer to his books.

From librarian Melanie Jacobs of the Light Street Branch of the Enoch Pratt Free Library, we get a book of interest for many ages.

"I thoroughly recommend the book 'We Were Liars' by E. Lockhart," Jacobs says. "It is a young adult book, but also has strong appeal to adults. The story is told by a tortured teen who is a member of a dysfunctional family. It is a roller coaster ride of dark and twisty that keeps the reader engaged and packs a wallop of a punch at the very end."
