(Baltimore, MD) -- MASN, the local leader in live sports entertainment, will televise Pam Shriver's 24th Annual BCF Tennis Challenge at 1st Mariner Arena on December 9th. MASN's exclusive production will air on December 15th at 8:00 p.m. in high definition on MASN HD with six additional replays throughout December.
The annual BCF Tennis Challenge showcases the sport's brightest stars as they compete in men's and women's singles, men's and mixed doubles, and a special Orioles Challenge Match featuring Jeremy Guthrie and Brad Bergesen. Featuring four current and former world No. 1 players, the Tennis Challenge is the longest running currently active charity tennis event in the country.
Confirmed participants include Melanie Oudin, John Isner, Lindsay Davenport, John McEnroe and the Bryan Brothers. Oudin recently became the youngest American tennis player to play in the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open since Serena Williams in 1999. After defeating Andy Roddick at the U.S. Open, Isner, a native of Greensboro, North Carolina, saw his ranking climb to a career high #39. Davenport ranked in the Top 20 in singles for 13 consecutive years while collecting three Grand Slam championships in singles and four more in doubles along the way. McEnroe, a Tennis Hall of Famer, led the U.S. to five Davis Cup Championships. With victories at the French Open, US Open, Australian Open and Wimbledon, twin brothers, Bob and Mike Bryan are the world's number 1 tennis duo.
The event is organized annually by International Tennis Hall of Fame star and Baltimore native Pam Shriver.
"We are thrilled to partner with MASN to bring this exciting event into the homes of sports fans -- both in Baltimore and throughout MASN's extensive territory for the first time," said Pam Shriver. "We look forward to continuing our partnership for years to come."
A pro-celebrity doubles match will feature current Orioles Jeremy Guthrie and Brad Bergesen, who will each be coached by a Ravens player and paired with a tennis star for an entertaining match sponsored by the Baltimore Orioles.
A first year sponsor, MASN will also televise next year's event, the 25th anniversary of the Tennis Challenge.
"One of Baltimore's longest running and most anticipated annual sporting events, the BCF Tennis Challenge is a fun competition showcasing the sport's brightest tennis stars," said MASN spokesman Todd Webster. "This exclusive production illustrates MASN's commitment to televising a wide variety of professional and collegiate sports throughout the region in crisp high definition."
The event benefits the Baltimore Community Foundation, a non-profit, tax-exempt organization, which donates Tennis Challenge proceeds to children-related charities in the Baltimore region.
