The Orioles completed one of their earlier summer trades this afternoon, receiving infielder Isaac De León from the Marlins as the player to be named later for left-handed reliever Richard Bleier.

The Bleier deal was consummated on Aug. 1.

De León is 18 and the type of player sought in the past by executive vice president/general manager Mike Elias. A young prospect to increase the talent level in the Rookie-level Dominican Summer League.

Elias acquired outfielder Elio Prado and infielder Noelberth Romero, both 17, from the Red Sox in the Andrew Cashner trade last July.

Orioles-cap-shades-and-glove-sidebar.jpgSigned by the Marlins in 2018 as an international free agent out of Santo Domingo, De León appeared in 66 games for the DSL Marlins last summer and slashed .256/.367/.324 (61-for-238) with 13 doubles, one home run, 20 RBIs, 38 walks and 35 runs scored.

De León appeared in 34 games at shortstop and 29 at third base. The Orioles referred to him as a shortstop in their announcement.

The Orioles are placing De León in their 60-man player pool, which is now full. However, he won't report to the alternate camp site in Bowie due to the late timing of his arrival in the organization.

The intake process and quarantine won't allow for his participation in workouts and intrasquad games.

De León received a $275,000 bonus from the Marlins in 2018.

There are five more players to be named later headed to the Orioles via trades involving pitchers Hector Velázquez, Tommy Milone (two), Mychal Givens and Miguel Castro. The announcements are likely to be withheld until after the season to allow the Orioles to choose a player from outside the pool.

Of course, that also was the expectation with the Bleier deal until today. The Marlins had to move De León into their pool before sending him to the Orioles.

A full 60-man pool could lead to another move in the next few days.

The Orioles designated pitcher Asher Wojciechowski for assignment yesterday. He couldn't be outrighted if he cleared waivers and they wanted to hold onto him.
