Orioles acquire Yefry RamÃrez from Yankees, Trumbo out of lineup
Though it doesn't quality as huge non-waiver trade deadline news, the Orioles have acquired right-hander Yefry RamÃrez from the Yankees today in exchange for international signing bonus slots.
RamÃrez, 23, is 10-3 with a 3.41 ERA and two complete games in 18 starts with Double-A Trenton. He's walked 38 batters and struck out 91 in 92 1/3 innings.
RamÃrez has gone 30-26 with a 3.43 ERA in six minor league seasons, with 74 starts among his 98 appearances. He was an infielder in the Diamondbacks organization in 2011 before moving to the mound the following season.
Mark Trumbo is out of the lineup tonight after being scratched yesterday due to back soreness. Trey Mancini is the cleanup hitter.
Jeremy Hellickson is throwing a bullpen session today. He's wearing No. 58 and left-hander Donnie Hart has switched to No. 57.
Jonathan Schoop ranks second in the American League with 76 RBIs. The Mariners' Nelson Cruz is first with 79. Schoop's 22 RBIs since the break lead the majors.
Ubaldo Jiménez lowered his ERA from 7.19 to 6.93 in his last start after holding the Rays to two runs and three hits in six innings. He struck out a season-high nine batters.
Jiménez is 5-5 with a 4.58 ERA in 13 career starts against the Royals. He's posted a 1.610 WHIP in 72 2/3 innings.
Eric Hosmer is 11-for-30 (.367) with a double, two home runs and eight RBIs lifetime against Jiménez. Lorenzo Cain is 9-for-20 (.450) with a home run, Brandon Moss is 6-for-16 (.375) with a home run and Alex Gordon is 9-for-29 (.310) with a home run.
Alcides Escobar is 5-for-35 (.143) with two doubles, Mike Moustakas is 5-for-31 (.161) with a home run and Salvador Perez is 4-for-25 (.160).
The Royals swept the Orioles in a three-game series May 12-14 in Kansas City, all three victories coming by one run. The Orioles were 22-11 when it began.
Left-hander Danny Duffy held the Orioles to two runs in seven innings on May 12. He's allowed one run in two of his last three starts covering 14 2/3 innings.
