Rather than bring in another reliever this afternoon, the Orioles have selected the contract of infielder Dilson Herrera from the alternate camp site in Bowie, recalled outfielder DJ Stewart and designated outfielder Mason Williams for assignment.
The 40-man roster currently has 38 players and the 60-man pool has 57 players.
The moves were made following yesterday's trade of reliever Miguel Castro to the Mets for minor league left-hander Kevin Smith and a player to be named later or cash considerations.
Herrera, who's wearing No. 2, is making his first visit to Camden Yards since the summer training camp. Stewart was 0-for-14 with six walks and eight strikeouts before the Orioles optioned him on Aug. 6.
Williams was 2-for-11 with a triple in seven games after replacing Dwight Smith Jr. on the roster.
Herrera was on the field this afternoon for early work at first base.
Hanser Alberto is out of tonight's lineup after leaving yesterday's game in Buffalo in the 11th inning with a sore knee. Pat Valaika is the second baseman and Cedric Mullins is leading off.
Asher Wojciechowski has never started against the Mets. His lone relief appearance in September 2017 lasted two-thirds of an inning and he allowed three runs and three hits. Dominic Smith hit a solo home run.
Ariel Jurado is making his first start with the Mets after being acquired from the Rangers on Aug. 5 for a player to be named later and cash considerations. He made 44 appearances with Texas over 2018 and 2019 seasons and went 12-16 with a 5.85 ERA and 1.514 WHIP and 103 strikeouts in 177 innings.
Jurado has made two starts against the Orioles, both in Texas, and gone 2-0 with five runs and 14 hits allowed in 11 innings. He turned in a quality start last year with three runs in six innings. Trey Mancini homered in the first.
