Orioles recall Zac Lowther

The Orioles recalled left-hander Zac Lowther from Triple-A Norfolk this afternoon and he's available to work in bulk relief for tonight's series finale versus the Twins.

Lowther has allowed seven runs and eight hits in two appearances with the Orioles spanning 3 1/3 innings. In three starts with Norfolk, he's surrendered nine earned runs (10 total) and 16 hits in 11 1/3 innings. He's walked seven batters and struck out 13.

The Orioles get a fresh arm in Lowther, who last pitched on May 26 and was scheduled to start tonight for the Tides in Durham. Konner Wade has replaced him.

A roster spot was created last night with infielder Tyler Nevin optioned to Norfolk.

Matt Harvey is an opener of sorts tonight, working on short rest and expected to last only an inning or two. His last four starts have been a chore, with 23 earned runs (24 total) and 29 hits allowed in 13 2/3 innings.

Harvey has made two career starts against the Twins and allowed nine runs, with five homers, in 10 2/3 innings.

Pitching for the Angels in May 2019, Harvey surrendered eight runs and seven hits in 2 2/3. Former Oriole Jonathan Schoop, Jorge Polanco, C.J. Cron and Miguel Sanó homered.

Austin Wynns is catching Harvey. Trey Mancini is the designated hitter again, with Ryan Mountcastle at first base.

Freddy Galvis is batting cleanup.

Twins right-hander Randy Dobnak is 1-4 with a 6.49 ERA and 1.367 WHIP in nine games, including two starts. He's never faced the Orioles.
