A look at where some Orioles stand on top prospects lists

Last season, the Orioles' top two pitching prospects, Dylan Bundy and Kevin Gausman, were ranked among the top 10 right-handed pitching prospects by MLBPipeline.com and MLB.com. Today, just Bundy is on that list. Coming back from elbow ligament replacement surgery, Bundy was No. 6 last year and was ranked No. 8 on the list released today. Gausman, who was ranked No. 5 last year, did not make the top 10. Next week, MLB.com will release its list of the 100 overall prospects in baseball and their list is loaded with right-handed pitchers. In fact, they report that 39 will be on that list, so a lot of top right-handers didn't make today's top 10. Here is their write-up on Bundy, who in December was ranked ahead of Gausman as the Orioles' No. 1 prospect by Baseball America: "Considered the most advanced high school pitcher in years, Bundy went fourth overall in the 2011 draft, signed a $6.225 million big league contract and was in the majors the following September at age 19. That led to huge expectations for 2013, but he didn't pitch in a game and underwent Tommy John elbow surgery in late June. Given his impressive work ethic, he's expected to make a full recovery and regain his array of five plus pitches, highlighted by a mid-90s fastball and high-70s curveball." Yesterday, the Orioles' Eduardo Rodriguez was ranked as the No. 6 left-handed pitcher on the list of the top 10 lefty pitching prospects. Here is the writeup on Rodriguez, ranked by Baseball America behind Bundy and Gausman as the O's No. 3 prospect: "The Venezuelan native took a step forward in 2013, reaching Double-A Bowie and ending the year as the starting pitcher in the Arizona Fall League championship game. He has grown into his big frame and now throws his fastball in the low-90s with good action. Rodriguez's changeup and slider give him two more quality pitches with which to attack hitters." On Monday, MASNSports.com's Roch Kubatko talked with Bundy about his comeback from Tommy John surgery in Sarasota at the O's pitching mini-camp.
