Now his name keeps popping up - much like he did during his first two months with the Orioles - in trade discussions. Bob Dutton writes, via Twitter, that the Royals are the latest team to inquire about Pie. You can read it here. Andy MacPhail, president of baseball operations, isn't looking to unload Pie and wants as much outfield insurance as he can get after running disturbingly thin at the position late last season. But Pie also has become a valuable trade chip, so MacPhail will continue to listen. Moving Pie or Luke Scott would enhance Lou Montanez's chances of making the team out of spring training. I'm not sure how he fits the way the roster is currently constructed. Also, the Rockies are reportedly interested in Melvin Mora - the first team that I've heard linked to the former Orioles third baseman. He could hit 30 homers in that thin air and command a long-term deal.
