Left-hander
Zach Britton and infielder
Cesar Izturis will join the
Orioles in New York, which means the 25-man roster will undergo another transformation.
Britton is slated to pitch the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Yankees, so he'll be recalled over the weekend. He was 0-2 with a 5.40 ERA in three games with Double-A Bowie, with 14 hits, two walks, 15 strikeouts and three home runs allowed in 11 2/3 innings.
Izturis has been on an injury rehab assignment at Bowie after undergoing elbow surgery. He's also been bothered by a sore knee.
Izturis was 3-for-15 with a double, a run scored and three strikeouts with the Baysox.
Britton
tweeted the following a few minutes ago: "NY bound w/ izzy!"
Sounds official to me.
If the Orioles activate Izturis from the disabled list, they could option infielder Blake Davis to Triple-A Norfolk. It depends how many backup middle infielders manager Buck Showalter wants to keep on his bench.
Down on the farm,
Mike Flacco hit a two-run homer today, his first with Single-A Frederick.
