For years, the Potomac Nationals and their fans have yearned for a stadium that matched the product on the field. That dream appears to finally be moving closer to reality. Prince William County, the Potomac Nationals, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and PTC Roadside Development LLC announced at a news conference today, that a public and private financial marriage has been put in place that would bring a 6,000-seat state-of-the-art minor league baseball stadium to Prince William County. When built, the stadium will be located at Potomac Town Center, which is accessible from Route 1 and Interstate 95 in Prince William County.

The organizers hope to have the new stadium, pictured in this artist's rendering, built by 2014. This announcement is a significant step to retiring Pfitzner Stadium, which has endured a recently replaced baseball diamond and a fire that gutted the team's front offices. Art Silber, owner of the Potomac Nationals, will reportedly help finance the deal with $25 million. In a press release, Potomac vice president and general manager Josh Olreud said, "Not only will this be one of the nicest stadiums in the country, (but) this is a community facility that will increase the lifestyle of all residents in Prince William County." The stadium will host 70 minor league games per season, as well as concerts, community events and wedding receptions year-round. It will also be adjacent to a commuter garage so the county residents can park there as they go in and out of D.C. and surrounding areas for work each day. The P-Nats have played at Pfitzner stadium since 1984.
