Orioles infielder Jace Peterson and pitcher Tom Eshelman have been outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk. The club made the announcement this afternoon.
Peterson could have declined the assignment and elected free agency, but he accepted it.
Eshelman and Peterson came off the 40-man roster while the Orioles were in Florida to create room for Mark Trumbo and Mason Williams, respectively.
Trumbo is in the Orioles lineup tonight as they start a four-game series against the Rangers at Camden Yards. Trumbo is serving as the designated hitter and batting sixth.
Hanser Alberto is leading off against left-hander Kolby Allard. Renato Núñez is playing first base.
Anthony Santander is in left field and Stevie Wilkerson is playing center.
Left-hander John Means has allowed two earned runs or fewer in each of his last three starts. He's walked two batters and struck out 15 in 19 innings.
Means faced the Rangers on June 5 and held them to one run over six innings in a 2-1 12-inning loss.
Allard has made six major league starts, including five in August with the Rangers. Left-handed hitters are slashing .294/.368/.382 this season and right-handers are slashing .230/.288/.338.
Allard, who's never faced the Orioles, has registered a 2.76 ERA and 1.163 WHIP this season in three road starts over 16 1/3 innings and a 6.75 ERA and 1.594 WHIP in two home starts over 10 2/3 innings.
The Braves made Allard the 14th overall pick in the 2015 First-Year Player Draft and traded him to the Rangers in July for pitcher Chris Martin.
