The Orioles will celebrate the 40^th Anniversary of the 1983 World Series title with a special pregame ceremony on Saturday, August 5, prior to the 7:05 p.m. ET game against the New York Mets. The pregame ceremony will feature returning players of the 1983 championship team, including Orioles Legends and National Baseball Hall of Famers EDDIE MURRAY, JIM PALMER, and CAL RIPKEN, JR.

The first 20,000 fans, 15 and over attending Saturday’s game will also receive an EDDIE MURRAY 1983 World Series bobblehead, presented by Royal Farms.

In addition to Murray, Palmer, and Ripken, over 20 members of the 1983 World Champion Orioles have already confirmed their attendance, including MIKE BODDICKER, AL BUMBRY, STORM DAVIS, RICK DEMPSEY, DAN FORD, GLENN GULLIVER, TITO LANDRUM, DENNIS MARTINEZ, TIPPY MARTINEZ, SCOTT McGREGOR, PAUL MIRABELLA, DAN MOROGIELLO, ALLAN RAMIREZ, GARY ROENICKE, LENN SAKATA, JOHN SHELBY, KEN SINGLETON, JOHN STEFERO, and BILL SWAGGERTY.

Murray and additional members of the 1983 team, along with the Oriole Bird, will participate in a clinic at Oriole Park at Camden Yards for 50 local Baltimore City youth from The Weinberg Y in Waverly, providing instruction on the fundamentals of baseball.

Bobbleheads featuring Adley Rutschman, Ryan Mountcastle, Félix Bautista and Hall of Famer Eddie Murray highlight the Orioles’ 2023 promotional schedule, which they released early this morning.

The Oriole Bird also gets his own bobblehead figure during Kids Opening Day on April 9.

Murray will be honored on Aug. 5 as part of the 40^th anniversary celebration of the 1983 World Series championship, the last won by the Orioles.

Rutschman’s bobblehead on June 10 is inspired by Captain America, as the Orioles delve into their first Marvel Super Hero Night.

Some of the most popular items are returning to Camden Yards, including floppy hats on June 30, Hawaiian shirts on July 1, soccer jerseys on July 15.and lightweight hoodies on Sept. 30.

One of the more jarring proclamations that I hear relating to rookie catcher Adley Rutschman is how he’s only going to get better. He isn’t a finished product. He’s just scratching the surface.

He’s left indelible marks.

Rutschman is the ninth player in major league history to record at least 40 extra-base hits and 50 walks in his first 89 career games. He’s the first catcher.

That last part is a doozy.

Think about all of the great catchers who passed our way, the Hall of Famers and others with credentials that warranted inclusion. Rutschman is the first.

I have mentioned a few times lately that not all days at the ballpark are created equal. Some are more special. We keep getting days like that around Birdland lately, and Saturday was sure one of them.

To have Hall of Famers Brooks Robinson and Eddie Murray at the Yard was pretty awesome, for the fans and the Orioles team too. The ceremony for the 30th anniversary celebration of Oriole Park at Camden Yards was well done, and brought back some nice memories of some wonderful moments over the years.

Then the Orioles' winning streak continued with a 6-3 win over Pittsburgh as 41,086 cheered them on. It was awesome to see Oriole Park rocking like it was Saturday. When I headed home the fans at the Yard were still rocking at the postgame concert.

I was just excited I had recognized a few of the songs. Had set the over/under at two and I went over. Yay for me. But that just capped off a great day and night for the fans of Birdland.

The Hall of Famers, No. 33 and No. 5, spent time talking to the Orioles players before the game. And after that they talked with reporters, and Murray was asked if this current club reminds him of the 1979 team that made Oriole magic a thing.
