Orioles manager Buck Showalter isn't keeping close tabs on Chris Davis or his negotiations. He can't escape the questions, but he won't be consumed by them.
"I don't dwell on it. I don't spend much time on it. I really don't," he said at today's FanFest.
"We have been and will be competitive to a point. They've got to make a decision, how much is enough, and the game will move on without me, you, him and the Orioles. We'd like to have him, but we'll be fine either way. I know there...
Trey Mancini probably knew the questions were coming. He is a first baseman who was the Orioles' 2015 minor league Player of the Year, taking the Brooks Robinson Award. Now the club may be losing a first baseman in Chris Davis.
Has Mancini followed the media reports? Is he ready to compete for a big league job at first?
"I follow it just like a casual observer would," Mancini said. "I don't get too down or happy about that until it's over. He's an incredible player and the Orioles would...
Orioles executive vice president Dan Duquette confirmed today at FanFest that the club has pulled its offer to first baseman Chris Davis.
Meeting with reporters on the third level of the Convention Center, Duquette indicated that an agreement remains a possibility and that negotiations could resume again later. However, he also spoke of the depth at first base within the organization and how the Orioles are more focused on finding a left-handed bat for the outfield.
The Orioles had a...
Orioles vice president of baseball operations Brady Anderson is delighted the club has agreed to terms with reliever Darren O'Day and made a big offer to first baseman Chris Davis.
But Anderson said today at FanFest that by letting both players get to free agency, the club is paying more to re-sign them now than it would have cost earlier.
"Small to mid-market teams like we are, you have a player, you appreciate them," Anderson said. "But some guys, you can fail to appreciate them when you...
Orioles manager Buck Showalter received a standing ovation from season-ticket holders this morning before his Q&A with executive vice president Dan Duquette.
Here are a few nuggets from the session:
* Reliever Darren O'Day isn't here, but the club is close to announcing his four-year deal. It should happen on Monday.
Manny Machado also isn't here, which Showalter noted after a fan asked about the club's attempts to sign the third baseman to an extension.
"Well, if he was here, we could...
Apparently, it is possible for a top free agent to accept less than the biggest offer. Amid reports that St. Louis and Washington offered him contracts worth $200 million or more, outfielder Jason Heyward took a deal for less.
The free agent outfielder agreed to terms with the Chicago Cubs yesterday, getting an eight-year deal with opt-out clauses worth $184 million. Heyward hit just 13 homers with 60 RBIs last year. Yet his outstanding defense, his speed and his age - he's just 26 - helped...
Show of hands if you're attending FanFest today at the Convention Center.
Closer Zach Britton is unable to make it due to a snowstorm in Nevada that closed a major highway and prevented him from getting a flight out of there. The Orioles instead will have Britton do some "interactive" stuff and the Orioles were working late last night on the necessary adjustments to the autograph station.
Ubaldo Jimenez received permission to skip it because he's getting married. Mark Trumbo and L.J. Hoes...
If you're waiting for the Orioles to confirm the Darren O'Day signing today, you probably should enjoy the nice weather and formulate your dinner plans.
I'm hearing that the club isn't expected to make an announcement today, so it's more likely to happen at Saturday's FanFest at the Convention Center. Plan accordingly.
O'Day passed his physical and signed his four-year, $31 million contract, which includes $4 million in deferred money. The sides reached agreement on Monday.
If you're...

While the Orioles work on crafting their roster for opening day, they're also finalizing plans for the Dec. 12 FanFest at the Convention Center.
The latest update involves the autograph stations, which include former Orioles Melvin Mora, Scott McGregor, Mike Boddicker, Ken Singleton, Chris Hoiles, Larry Sheets, Ross Grimsley, Tippy Martinez and Larry Bigbie. The group also includes Hall of Famer Jim Palmer, vice president of baseball operations Brady Anderson and former shortstop and current...
Autograph vouchers for FanFest go on sale tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. at orioles.com/fanfest. But in order to plan out whose signatures you want to get, and when you can get them, we're happy to provide the official list of autograph stations for FanFest on Dec. 12 at the Baltimore Convention Center.
At FanFest, the Orioles will once again employ an autograph policy designed to support youth charitable endeavors through OriolesREACH and enhance fan engagement with shorter wait times. Children...
The Orioles will receive left-hander C.J. Riefenhauser from the Mariners to complete the trade involving Mark Trumbo and Steve Clevenger, with a source confirming reports.
The deal still isn't official, but the day is young.
Riefenhauser, 25, is 1-0 with a 6.30 ERA in 24 games with the Rays over parts of two seasons. He appeared in 17 games this season and allowed 10 runs (nine earned) and 15 hits in 14 2/3 innings. He walked seven batters and struck out seven.
I heard last night that the...
The Orioles today announced that FanFest will be held on Saturday, Dec. 12 at the Baltimore Convention Center - and that tickets are now available.
By now, you know the drill when it comes to the annual daylong offseason celebration of all things black and orange: appearances by current and former O's players and coaches; question-and-answer forums with players and front office staff; clinics for kids on a youth-sized baseball field; kids press conferences where young O's fans can ask...
The Orioles' expanded roster will include four more players from Triple-A Norfolk.
Officials confirmed today that the club will recall pitchers Tyler Wilson and Oliver Drake, first baseman Christian Walker and outfielder Junior Lake.
The Tides lost Game 5 of the International League semifinals last night to Columbus, ending their season and freeing the Orioles to bring up reinforcements.
Wilson hasn't pitched in five days, making him available to the Orioles right away. He was 5-5 with a 3.24...
Do you find yourself craving the warmth of summer nights spent at Camden Yards? You're not alone. But since we can't time travel to opening day just yet, we have something equally as exciting lined up for you this weekend: Orioles FanFest 2015!
You know the drill: MASN will be on-site all day at the Baltimore Convention Center on Saturday, Jan 31, hooking you up with O's gear, autographed memorabilia and chances to rub elbows with your favorite players and on-air personalities.
For all of...
On Saturday, more than 16,000 fans gathered at the Baltimore Convention Center to kick off another season of Orioles baseball. The MASN booth stood in the middle of the excitement, offering fans ways to win prizes and take photos with their favorite players.
One of the biggest hits of the day was MASN's #SwagGrab claw machine. We rewarded our Twitter followers with an opportunity to try their hand at the arcade game, where they had chances to win Orioles gear, autographed memorabilia or suite...
Over the past few days, Orioles executive vice president Dan Duquette has singled out Logan Verrett when discussing the Rule 5 pitchers who will report to spring training later this month.
Nothing against Jason Garcia. Duquette has tossed praise his way, as well. But he's been bringing up Verrett's name first, including last night on the "Hot Stove Show" on 105.7 The Fan after I asked about the probability that at least one of the right-handers will make the club.
Verrett, 24, is the more...
There is always something special about seeing the sport of baseball produce a smile on a kid's face. We saw that in abundance on Saturday during the latest edition of Orioles FanFest.
I was asked to help moderate two kids press conferences with players. I would call this a hidden gem of FanFest. At least it was hidden to me (my bad for that) until Saturday. Presented by MASN, the press conferences were great fun and very well-attended. The kids got their own press passes and then lined up...
One of the lasting images for me at FanFest on Saturday was first baseman Chris Davis sporting his usual winter beard and a smile that hadn't been seen by reporters in almost five months.
We also hadn't heard from him since the Game 4 loss to the Royals in the American League Championship Series, when he politely declined comment. He sat silently on a couch as we filed in, staring at one of the televisions, and later hugged a few teammates before heading for the exit. That was it.
Davis was...
Orioles third baseman Manny Machado provided an update today on his comeback from his second knee surgery. During the club's minicamp in mid-January in Sarasota, Machado said he felt he would be full-go by spring training and he still feels that way.
Machado has been taking part in full baseball activities for several weeks now, after surgery on Aug. 27 to repair a partial tear of a ligament in his right knee. He underwent a similar procedure on his left knee in 2013.
"Ready to roll,"...
