#TBT to "Nationals Classics": Jackson helps Nats salvage nightcap of doubleheader

The major league hot stove has been ice cold so far this offseason. There are still plenty of big-name free agents available on the board with spring training less than three weeks away.

Although the Nationals never figured to play a huge role in the free agent market this offseason, they have made a couple of re-signings to at least make this winter not completely uneventful. They re-signed Brandon Kintzler to a one-year deal to keep the Law Firm bullpen intact. Matt Adams was signed to a one-year contract to fill the left-handed hitter/backup first baseman role. And just last week, the Nats re-signed Howie Kendrick to a two-year deal.

Also, a few weeks ago, the Nats brought back Edwin Jackson on a minor league deal. Jackson, in his second stint with the club, proved to be useful filler in the Nationals rotation during last season's second half, going 5-6 with a 5.07 ERA in 13 starts.

Jackson's third start with the Nats didn't come against an easy opponent in the powerful Rockies lineup. But he proved his worth, pitching seven innings of one-run ball while striking out six to earn the 3-1 win. Tuesday, Jan. 30, 7 p.m. - Michael A. Taylor delivered a dramatic inside-the-park grand slam on Sept. 8 of last year to lift the Nats over the Phillies 11-10 in D.C.
