BALTIMORE – The Nationals, believe it or not, haven’t been shut out often this season. Tuesday night’s 1-0 loss to the Orioles was only their eighth shutout loss this year. Only seven major league clubs have failed to score fewer times in 2023. There are two odd facts about the Nats’ shutouts, though. They’ve all come in April, August or September.

As I started my postgame radio show on WBAL Radio last night, I knew an emotional night was coming up. As less than an hour before game time Tuesday we all got the news - the great Brooks Robinson had died at 86. Caller after caller fondly remembered the kid from Little Rock, Ark. who long since is now thought of as Baltimore's own. But it wasn't W

The Orioles haven’t clinched the American League East, and that’s the item on manager Brandon Hyde’s mind. That’s where his focus lies this week. The unfinished business before the playoffs begin. Has he thought about specific roles for players during the postseason? “No,” he said. Short and to the point. I’m sure that the club has considered vario

BALTIMORE – It shouldn’t mean much in the grand scheme of things. The results of tonight’s start weren’t going to define Josiah Gray’s season, in either direction. But it’s funny how a slight disparity in certain numbers can feel significant in the baseball world, and this was one of those cases. Gray entered his final outing of the year with an ER

Gunnar Henderson swung at the seventh pitch thrown to him tonight and moved closer to ranking first on more Orioles all-time rookie lists. Kyle Bradish was handed the ball and demonstrated again why he should be the first starter in the playoffs. Amid the excitement of the Orioles making the playoffs for the first time in seven years came the sad news that Baltimore had lost one of its legends. Hall of Fame third baseman Brooks Robinson passed away today at the age of 86. And nothing else seemed important. A statement from the team and Robinson’s family read: “We are deeply saddened to shar

Chasing their 98th win and with a magic number of three to clinch the American League East championship, the Orioles host the Nationals tonight to begin a two-game series at Oriole Park. BALTIMORE – Time is running out, but there’s still a chance Tanner Rainey pitches for the Nationals before season’s end. Rainey, who has spent the year rehabbing from last summer’s Tommy John surgery, traveled with the team for this week’s final road trip and could be activated off the 60-day injured list either Wednesday here in Baltimore or Frida

Ryan Mountcastle hit on the field today for the first time since he went on the 10-day injured list with left AC joint inflammation, making hard contact on many of his swings. Mountcastle is eligible to be reinstated on Wednesday. He’s been working out at first base. “We’ll see how that goes, see how he feels,” manager Brandon Hyde said this aftern
