Bowie infielder Ryan Adams is not noted for his glovework, but he sure is swinging a hot bat right now. Since June 1, Adams is batting .335 with 26 doubles over 67 games. The Orioles' second-round pick in 2006, he is among the league leaders in several categories in the Eastern League. His .302 average is tied for 5th, while he is 2nd with 136 hits and 52 extra-base hits and he leads the league with 40 doubles. Adams was playing mostly second base earlier, but has been playing a lot...

I brought up Koji Uehara's name yesterday during my conversation with president of baseball operations Andy MacPhail. As expected, the Orioles aren't ready to say whether they'll attempt to re-sign Uehara this winter at a significantly reduced rate. And Uehara hasn't confirmed whether he'll return to Japan or attempt to continue pitching in the majors. MacPhail didn't shoot down the idea of retaining Uehara, but he'll need to seek the opinion of his medical staff. The Orioles...

Nationals left-hander Ross Detwiler continues to make steady progress as he recovers from a hip strain that placed him on the disabled list. Detwiler has been working with a physical therapist and will fly to Florida tomorrow to spend a week in Viera and pitch simulated games. He says the hip feels "pretty good" and says it is getting a little better everyday. Detwiler's last game was August 5 at Arizona where he allowed four earned runs on nine hits over four innings. He is 0-2 with a...

He won't be on the mound, but fans can still enjoy plenty of Stephen Strasburg during tonight's game against the Braves. Strasburg will wear a wireless mic as part of MASN's regular Wired Wednesday, a feature which brings fans candid thoughts and sounds straight from the dugout each week. It will give fans an up-close look at the phenom and his interaction with teammates during the game. The usually stoic Strasburg showed some humor during his presentation of the Top 10 with David...

The rain is a downer, and so is the realization that the Orioles were dominated last night by a pitcher named Luke French. Not familiar with him? Join the club. The Orioles still have that knack for making every new guy look like Cy Young. It's as much a tradition in Baltimore as John Denver's voice during the seventh inning stretch. In fact, if Denver could pitch against the Orioles tonight - and that would be quite the miracle - he'd probably toss seven scoreless innings. "Anytime...

Let's take a look at some Orioles stats and notes as we await the third and final game of the Seattle series tonight at Camden Yards. *The Orioles were shutout for the eighth time this year last night. They were held to three hits, which tied a season-low output that they were held to in five games this year. *Josh Bell did go 2 for 3 with a double. Bell is 8 for 21 (.381) over his last six games, raising his average from .167 to .232. That was his third Major League multi-hit...

A spectacular debut for outfielder Michael Burgess with Double-A Harrisburg Tuesday night. Burgess smacked a pair of solo homers in his first game for the Senators. Erie came back and won the game 4-3 in 10. Burgess connected in the fifth and seventh innings against Erie right-handed starter Anthony Shawler, who has allowed five home runs in his last three appearances. Burgess ended up going 2-for-4 with 2 HRs, 2 runs and 2 RBI in his initial game for Harrisburg. Brad Peacock had a great...

Kevin Millwood has been down this road before. He knows the landmarks on the side of the road and every pothole at this point. It was a night where he pitched well, but got little, or should we say, no run support. Millwood gave up just one run and six hits over eight innings, but Luke French topped that as Seattle beat the Orioles 4-0 tonight. Kevin Millwood talks about his outing after the O's 4-0 loss "I worry about things I can control and scoring runs is obviously something I can't...

Jim Johnson threw two scoreless innings tonight at Single-A Frederick, allowing two hits and striking out one. He recorded three outs on ground balls and two on fly balls. The Orioles wasted another quality start from Kevin Millwood. They've scored 87 runs for him in his 24 outings (3.6 per game), and only 51 (2.1) while he's been on the mound. In his last 21 starts, the Orioles have scored 44 runs (2.1) while he's been in the game. Buck Showalter talks with the media after the O's 4-0...
