Brad Bergesen has retired nine of the last 10 batters he faced. Bergesen allowed a one-out double to Austin Jackson in the second ining, but he struck out Johnny Damon and retired Magglio Ordonez on a sharp grounder to the mound. He threw 16 pitches, 10 for strikes. Miguel Cabrera, who launched a pitch into the parking lot beyond the left field fence in his first at-bat, grounded an 0-2 pitch to short in the third inning. Carlos Guillen struck out and Brandon Inge grounded to second. Bergesen is looking like his usual self. He threw nine of his 11 pitches for strikes in the third. That's more like it. Not sure how long he'll last, however, with his pitch count at 63 through three innings. Eddie Murray, Ben McDonald and Mike Boddicker were on the field during batting practice this morning. Murray will make his MASN broadcast debut in the four-game series against the Minnesota Twins that begins May 6. Update: Scott Sizemore homered off Bergesen with one out in the fourth. Detroit 5, Orioles 0. Sizemore does matter. Bergesen threw 12 pitches, eight for strikes. He's retired 12 of the last 14 batters, though he needed a diving grab from Lou Montanez in right to rob Ramon Santiago after Sizemore's homer. Miguel Tejada doubled and Garrett Atkins walked to begin the bottom of the fifth, so the Orioles are trying to rally back. Update II:: Lou Montanez hit a three-run double to right-center field and scored on Craig Tatum's grounder. Detroit 5, Orioles 4. The Orioles released the names of the eight players who were cut today. Infielder Justin Turner and pitchers Chris Tillman and Alberto Castillo were optioned to Triple-A Norfolk. Catcher Adam Donachie and outfielder Jeff Salazar were reassigned to the minors because they're not on the 40-man roster. Infielder Scott Moore and pitchers Alfredo Simon and Ross Wolf also were reassigned, but they'll remain with the Orioles for the remainder of spring training.
