Birdland Golf Classic raises $40,000 for Miracle League of Manasota

The fifth annual OriolesREACH Birdland Golf Classic, held Monday at the Founders Club in Sarasota, was a rousing success, raising more than $40,000 for the Miracle League of Manasota.

Those monies will help to fund the Miracle League for the entire upcoming season, ensuring that 14,000 school-aged children with disabilities and their adult counterparts in Manatee and Sarasota counties can continue to play ball. Their home diamond is a synthetically surfaced field with all the requisite amenities at Longwood Park in Sarasota.

Orioles manager Buck Showalter and players such as Chris Davis, J.J. Hardy, Darren O'Day and Chris Tillman were among the Birds to trade their bats for clubs for an enjoyable afternoon on the links.

Since its inception, the Birdland Golf Classic has raised more than $165,000 for the Miracle League.
