SARASOTA, Fla. - Korean pitcher Suk-min Yoon took his physical today and left the complex. The Orioles aren't expected to make an announcement on his signing before Saturday. The Orioles are trying to obtain a work visa for Yoon without him making another trip to south Korea. Manager Buck Showalter isn't certain whether Yoon will work out as a starter or reliever. He still needs to sit down with executive vice president Dan Duquette. Showalter also doesn't know when Yoon will be ready to work out, the projections varying from five days to two weeks. The Orioles set up Yoon's locker between catcher Johnny Monell and pitcher Alfredo Aceves. Yoon is the only one in the group who actually made it to Sarasota. The club still hasn't assigned Yoon a uniform number. Pitcher Tim Alderson also was a no-show today because of the weather. Alderson and Monell are expected in camp Saturday, with Aceves arriving on Sunday.

Here's the list of Orioles pitchers who threw in the bullpen today: Brian Matusz, Chris Tillman, Edgmer Escalona, Steve Johnson, Miguel Gonzalez, Liam Hendriks, Mike Belfiore, Kevin Gausman, Mike Wright, Josh Stinson, Eduardo Rodriguez, Chris Jones, Eddie Gamboa and Fabio Castillo. Michael Ohlman caught Gamboa's knuckler. He drew the short straw. A team official watched Johnson throw and praised his conditioning and his session. Rodriguez's stuff looks nasty. Just as it did in the championship game of the Arizona Fall League. Jonathan Schoop looks like he's put on weight, and in a good way. His frame is filling out and he appears to be much stronger and more defined. Schoop apparently hit a passing car during batting practice. Showalter tries to adjust which field is used, depending on the direction of the wind. "We don't have a place to move Jonathan," he said. "We've run out of places." The Orioles were among the many teams that watched Ryan Madson work out. I don't sense that there's a lot of interest, but they checked him out. Madson, 33, hasn't pitched since 2011 due to ligament-reconstructive surgery in his right elbow and subsequent complications. It's been a difficult day for bullpen coach Dom Chiti, who was extremely close to Jim Fregosi. Fregosi passed away early this morning after suffering multiple strokes. If Showalter had moved up to the front office, Fregosi would have been on his short list of managerial candidates.
