(Washington D.C.) -- MASN, the local leader in live sports entertainment, will carry the 56th Woodward Stakes on Saturday afternoon beginning at 5 p.m. as part of a continuing series, Saturdays at Saratoga. Three year old Rachel Alexandra, winner of eight consecutive races including the Preakness, seeks to make racing history on Saturday as the first female to win the Woodward Stakes. She will face seven older males in the race.
The first filly to win the Preakness in 85 years, Rachel Alexandra continues to outshine the competition and set new racing records.
Saturday has also been declared "Rachel Alexandra Day" in Saratoga Springs with elebrations throughout the town and at the racetrack to commemorate the occasion. Only one other 3 year-old filly has ever competed in the race.
The Woodward Stakes will begin at Saratoga Race Course at approximately 5:52 p.m., with MASN's coverage beginning at 5 p.m. Jason Blewitt, Eric Donovan and Andy Serling will provide commentary for the telecast.
MASN is committed to televising the highest caliber national and local thoroughbred racing. A 2009 partnership with The New York Racing Association Inc. (NYRA) brought the weekly program, Saturdays at Saratoga, to viewers throughout MASN's seven-state territory. Currently, MASN also carries "Thoroughbred Week," a regular recap of racing insights and highlights, as well as "Against the Odds," a weekly preview of the country's top stakes races produced by HRTV, and "Inside Information" an in-depth look at the personalities in thoroughbred racing, also produced by HRTV. The network has also televised Trackside Live, a weekly tour of the best racetracks in the country.
