Ravens in Our Community: 2008 Thanksgiving Efforts

Close to 20 Ravens players will be in our community this Tuesday (11/25) to provide holiday meals to families in need. Each year, the players commit to making a difference and feeding Maryland families. In addition to hosting the annual Ravens Food & Family Drive and November collection efforts, the Ravens All Community Team Foundation made a $10,000 donation to the Bea Gaddy Family Center for its annual Thanksgiving dinner events. Together, the Ravens' organization and players work to combat hunger issues in Maryland. Annually, more than 235,000 people in Maryland rely on community feeding programs to avoid going hungry. *Ravens RBs Le'Ron McClain, WillisMcGahee and Ray Rice will provide Thanksgiving baskets to Howard County families in need on Tuesday. The players will be working with the Community Action Council, a nonprofit human services organization committed to helping its most vulnerable citizens. * QB Kyle Boller donated funds to provide Thanksgiving baskets to residents of Pigtown, a southwest Baltimore neighborhood. On Tuesday, DT Justin Bannan and LB Nick Greisen will distribute the dinners at Paul's Place Outreach Center, which will serve 300 people, many of which are families with children under the age of 10. * For the first time, CB Derrick Martin will provide 50 turkeys to families at William C. March Middle School. Martin established a charitable foundation in 2007 to streamline his community efforts in Baltimore and his hometown of Denver. * LB Ray Lewis will host his annual Thanksgiving dinner at the DIAKON Center in north Baltimore. He has joined forces with area companies to supply 1,000 Baltimore families with the necessary items to dine for the holiday, in addition to providing the families with household products and toiletries. * For the third year, LB Bart Scott will partner with the Helping Up Mission in downtown Baltimore to provide Thanksgiving meals for 275 people. Turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, mixed vegetables, rolls and dessert will be a special meal for the men who live and visit the shelter. The Mission is a residential facility where Scott, joined by teammates, will be serving dinner to the guests. Additional Ravens players will join their teammates at the various efforts listed.
