In his first start against Arizona on May 13, Strasburg allowed only three runs that came later in the game, and took the hard-luck 3-1 loss. With two outs Tuesday night in the first inning, David Peralta got a hold of a 1-2 pitch and crushed it over the right field wall to give Arizona a 1-0 lead. It was Peralta's second home run in as many at-bats as he hit one in the ninth inning of Monday's game. Against D-backs starter Chase Anderson, Denard Span drew a walk to open the inning. But Anderson then recorded three straight outs. After one in D.C., the Diamondbacks lead the Nationals 1-0. Update: The Nationals went after Anderson the second time through the order. In the third, Span singled and advanced on a base hit by Anthony Rendon. Jayson Werth's single scored Span and the Nationals tied the game 1-1. Ian Desmond followed with a two-run single to left and the Nationals had their first lead of the contest, 3-1. That's two hits on the evening so far for Desmond. A bloop single by Bryce Harper loaded the bases for Asdrubal Cabrera, still with no outs in the inning. The base hit by Harper ended Anderson's night. Cabrera greeted D-backs reliever Eury De La Rosa with a double to deep right-center field and three runs scored to give the Nationals a 6-1 lead. Anderson went two innings plus six batters(!) and allowed six runs, all earned, with three walks and two strikeouts. He managed 64 pitches, 39 for strikes. Update II: Desmond is having a night, smacking another two-run single in the sixth to give the Nationals an 8-1 lead. Desmond is 3-for-4 with four RBIs. Update III: With a strikeout of Jake Lamb in the eighth, Strasburg has reached 198 strikeouts on the season, a new career-high. He had 197 strikeouts in 28 starts in 2012. Update IV: Strasburg finished eight innings, allowing three hits and one solo homer, one walk and four strikeouts. He tossed 95 pitches, 61 for strikes. He improves to 10-10 after Jerry Blevins tossed a scoreless ninth inning. The Nationals defeated Arizona 8-1 for their eighth straight victory and 71st of the season.
