O's stay in win-one, lose-one mode, and Brady Anderson on HR Derby

O's stay in win-one, lose-one mode, and Brady Anderson on HR Derby
The Orioles are still taking one step forward followed by one step back. They can't seem to build on any momentum they gather. The latest example was the walk-off grand slam hit by Manny Machado that provided an uplifting win on Friday night. It was followed by a 5-1 loss last night to the Los Angeles Angels. Over the last 12 games the Orioles have gone win, loss, loss, win, loss, win, loss, win, loss, loss, win and loss. That is a 5-7 record in that span. The Orioles scored 12 runs last...

O's game blog: Tonight's game and Brady Anderson wins Home Run Derby
The Orioles have had a few solid wins recently with a chance to build some positive momentum, only to follow up those victories with more losing. They will try to reverse that trend tonight. The Orioles (60-62) host the Los Angeles Angels (62-60) in the second game of a three-game series. They won 9-7 on Manny Machado's walk-off grand slam in the ninth last night. Over his last 12 games, Machado is batting .370 (20-for-54) with seven home runs (including three grand slams) and 25 RBIs....

Matthew Taylor: Recalling the majesty of Sam Horn

Matthew Taylor: Recalling the majesty of Sam Horn
Fair or foul? Chris Davis' awe-inspiring blast down the right-field line versus the Red Sox on Wednesday night was deemed to be foul and upheld on review. Orioles manager Buck Showalter, who said the team had a camera angle showing the ball was fair, wasn't buying it. Neither was David Price, who tweeted that the ball was "definitely fair." You know you've hit it well when opposing players are discussing your efforts. Price's full tweet deemed Davis' moon shot "the most majestic ball...

Matthew Taylor: For Horn, plenty of memories in Kansas City

Matthew Taylor: For Horn, plenty of memories in Kansas City
The Orioles are in Kansas City, and while there are plenty of current storylines to consider, I can't help but think of Sam Horn. It happens to me whenever the O's play at Kaufman Stadium. Horn is one of my favorite former Orioles, and he simply had a way of producing against the Royals. Horn's O's debut came at Kansas City on April 9, 1990. He went 4-for-5 with a pair of three-run home runs, including one into the stadium fountain. His eighth-inning homer erased a 6-3 deficit in a game...

Matthew Taylor: Of Davis and comparisons to beefy left-handed bashers

Matthew Taylor: Of Davis and comparisons to beefy left-handed bashers
On April 5, with Chris Davis having hit four home runs in four games, MLB Network analyst Peter Gammons commented on Twitter about the Orioles' 2011 acquisition of the lefty slugger and remarked, "Now Davis is Boog." Boog, of course, is Boog Powell. And Gammons, of course, was engaging in a bit of hyperbole. Chris Davis is no Boog Powell. Nevertheless, a player like Davis, built the way he is and performing the way he has to start the season, invites historical comparisons, and Powell is...
