MacPhail on the radio
If you didn't get a chance to hear Andy MacPhail interviewed Wednesday on 105.7 the Fan FM in Baltimore, you missed a good, wide-ranging interview with the Orioles' team president. He appeared on the Ken Weinman and Vinny Cerrato show that airs each weekday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m on the Fan. Many topics were addressed and here are some excerpts from the interview. MacPhail was asked about Brian Matusz: "He's healthy. For whatever reason, from where he was in spring training to the time he...

MacPhail's message to the fans
I am not sure what is was all about, but a video of O's president Andy MacPhail appeared on MLB.com today. It seems to be his update to the O's fans. Here is the transcript of what he said and the video link. "I wanted to take an opportunity to talk to you a little bit about where we are at this stage of the season. As you know, we've all had to endure a terrifically horrendous start. That first 18 games were terribly problematic for us and really a miserable way to start the season. I...

A little more MacPhail
A recent article in Dickinson Magazine featured a particular alumnus of special interest to Orioles fans. If you didn't already know that O's President of Baseball Operations Andy MacPhail (along with many in his family) graduated from Dickinson College, the magazine feature touches on the MacPhail family's unshakable connections to the college, the game of baseball, and the Orioles. The article's author, Sherri Kimmel, adeptly likens the MacPhail name in baseball to the Kennedy...

Yankees 11, Orioles 5. Nolan Reimold has three more hits tonight, including two doubles. He came within an inch of hitting a home run in the...

Subtract Arrieta

Subtract Arrieta
The Orioles have assigned pitcher Jake Arrieta to the minor league camp, reducing their spring training roster to 47 players. Arrieta needs the innings, and they won't come in Grapefruit League games with the projected starters being stretched out. Look for Arrieta to reappear in Triple-A Norfolk's rotation in April. The right-hander allowed three earned runs (five total) and seven hits in five innings this spring, with four walks and nine strikeouts.

Brian Roberts said he is making solid progress as he attempts to get in some exhibition games soon and be ready for Opening Day. Roberts was a guest today on the phone on the Scott Garceau show on MASN and 105.7FM the Fan during MASN's Brian Roberts report. "I've taken batting practice three times now with no ill effects of that. The swing is starting to feel better and I've taken ground balls and run around.
