Hernandez's day

Scott Moore lifted a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth and Justin Turner hit a three-run double to increase the Orioles' lead to 6-0.. Did David Hernandez do enough today to push Chris Tillman from the fifth starter's slot? We still don't know, and neither does Hernandez. "I'm just trying to go out there and do the best I can every performance," he said. "Whether it's good enough or not, all I can say is I went out there and gave it my best effort. And today, the results indicated that. "They haven't said anything to me as far as being in the starting rotation or where I'm starting or what my role's going to be. I just go out there and try to take care of my business and try to make it a tough decision for them." Hernandez blanked the Red Sox on four hits over five innings. He walked two and struck out six. "I was very satisfied," he said. "One thing I wanted to work on coming in was being able to throw my fastball to both sides of the plate. Today, I got (Dustin) Pedroia swinging on the inside part and I got a couple left-handers looking. It felt good being able to throw the pitch in there. I've never really trusted myself to be able to get the ball in there." Hernandez struck out three straight batters with the bases loaded and none out in the fourth. That's how I'll remember his day. "It's never fun with the bases loaded," he said. "I was just trying to get out of it with one or two runs."
