Eaton reports he is "healthy", plus updates on Zimmerman and Murphy

I checked in with Nationals outfielder Adam Eaton, who is rehabbing his ankle surgery. Last week he was sporting a cast on his left ankle that went all the way up to his knee. Today he rolled down his ankle sock to show no tape and just the scar from his surgery. No swelling.

Eaton said he is continuing rehab from the surgery and is getting back into baseball-related activities.

"We do different things every day," Eaton said. "You throw, you run too. You just ramp it up and get her going. We're swinging. We're doing basically everything we need to do to play. Hopefully when the time runs out we'll be ready. The timer runs out, what June 8? Plan on getting going then."

Eaton-Swings-Blue-Sidebar.jpgEaton has been on what is now a 60-day disabled list since April 9. Manager Davey Martinez discussed what progress he saw from Eaton before Tuesday's game.

"I saw him today in the gym and he was riding the bike and moving around pretty good," Martinez said. "Progress. I'm excited that he's doing better. So when we get him back, we get him back."

If Eaton is ready to go by June 8, he would then head out to an affiliate or two for five to seven games.

"Need about a week of games and maybe ten days of swinging," Eaton said. "That's about what our spring training should be. We'll be pushing it. I'm excited to get back. Be sooner than later.

"I'm healthy. Right now the message is I'm healthy."

First baseman Ryan Zimmerman took a step forward today with baseball activities. He has been on the 10-day disabled list since May 10 with a right oblique strain.

"He took 50 swings yesterday," Martinez said. "He's getting better."

Martinez said second baseman Daniel Murphy is currently slowed by sickness. He has been recovering from microfracture knee surgery.

"He's still sick. It's a bug, some bug, virus," Martinez said. "He says he feels little better but he hasn't shaken it yet."
