Orioles lineup vs. Blue Jays

Chris Davis has returned to the lineup for the Orioles' series opener against the Blue Jays at Camden Yards.

Davis hasn't played since Wednesday against the Dodgers. He's accumulated only nine plate appearances this month.

Trey Mancini is the designated hitter and DJ Stewart is in right field.

Chandler Shepherd is making his first major league start and third appearance, becoming the 17th pitcher to start for the Orioles this season.

Blue Jays rookie right-hander Trent Thornton is 5-9 with a 5.04 ERA and 1.457 WHIP in 29 games (28 starts). He's allowed 23 home runs in 139 1/3 innings.

Thornton pitched at Camden Yards on June 11 and allowed three runs and seven hits in five innings. He shut out the Orioles on three hits over six innings on July 7 in Toronto and held them to one run over six innings on Aug. 1 in Baltimore.

Davis is 4-for-5 with a double and walk against him.

Former Ravens safety and Hall of Famer Ed Reed is throwing out the ceremonial first pitch.
