"Orioles Classics" #TBT: Something for everyone

If you're still putting together your holiday shopping list - and are not one of those folks who likes to have everything bought, wrapped and ready to go by, say, Halloween - you're familiar with the idea that some folks are just plain hard to buy for.

This week's rotation of "Orioles Classics" on MASN has a little bit of something for everyone. Whatever you like to see when you watch a baseball game - powerful offensive displays, pitching prowess, sparkling defense, historical achievements - will hit the airwaves.

So take a break from the glut of pre-holiday chores and enjoy this week's "Orioles Classics."

Friday, Dec. 11 - 12:30 p.m. - On Sept. 6, 2012, the day when the Orioles unveiled a statue honoring Cal Ripken Jr., they also put a hurting on the Yankees, moving into a first-place tie with the Bronx Bombers in the American League East with a 10-6 victory that featured five home runs. Three of those blasts came during a four-run eighth inning that snapped a 6-6 standoff. Adam Jones, Mark Reynolds and Chris Davis went deep in the decisive frame as the Birds teed off on the Yankees bullpen.

Saturday, Dec. 12 - 11 p.m. - Orioles fans will long remember Sept. 16, 2014 for an 8-2 rout of the Blue Jays that clinched Baltimore's first AL East title since 1997. Steve Pearce and Jimmy Paredes provided the offensive highlights by going yard, and Pearce handled the final out of the game on an unassisted grounder to first, touching off a wild celebration.

Monday, Dec. 14 - 1 p.m. - We start off the week with a tripleheader, and the first of three throwback telecasts on MASN offers a pretty impressive power display. The Orioles socked five home runs on Aug. 25, 2014 in a 9-1 shellacking of the Rays that put the home team 19 games on the right side of .500. Nick Markakis and Pearce went back-to-back in the third, while Nelson Cruz, Delmon Young and J.J. Hardy homered in succession in the fifth.

Monday, Dec. 14 - 8 p.m. - We promised pitching highlights and John Means delivered them on Sept. 20, 2020. The left-hander fanned 12 Rays in 5 2/3 innings, with the bullpen finishing out a 2-1 victory.

Monday, Dec. 14 - 11:59 p.m. - Our third game of the day gets just under the midnight wire. Down 2-1 in the eighth inning on Aug. 13, 2014, the O's exploded for four runs off the Yankees bullpen to record a 5-3 triumph. Jonathan Schoop's solo shot tied it and Jones' three-run blast to left-center finished the scoring against New York. Zack Britton allowed a run in the ninth, but picked up the save.

Wednesday, Dec. 16 - 9 a.m. - Back on July 15, 1989, the phase "walk-off home run" had yet to be coined. It was just a game-winning blast. But Mike Devereaux's two-run poke down the left field line may be (or may not have been) one of the most entertaining round-trippers in club annals. It provided an 11-9 win over the Angels and sent California manager Doug Rader into a frenzy of an argument with the men in blue.

Wednesday, Dec. 16 - 11:30 p.m. - Dean Kremer made his major league debut a memorable one on Sept. 6, 2020, allowing a run on one hit and striking out seven over six innings. He was credited with the victory as the O's prevailed 5-1, with DJ Stewart hitting a two-run homer. The Birds celebrated the 25th anniversary of Ripken's 2,131st consecutive game in style.
