"Go Green" cap auction to benefit Marie Selby Botanical Gardens in Sarasota
The wearing of the green is a big deal, even during spring training to the guys who normally don black and orange. Once again this St. Patrick's Day, the Orioles are wearing specially designed green caps in their game against the Pirates in Bradenton and during morning workouts at Ed Smith Stadium. The game-worn and team-issued caps will be autographed, authenticated and auctioned online at www.orioles.com/spring to benefit Marie Selby Botanical Gardens. Orioles fans may bid online to support...

Showalter on injuries, Janish and a tarp controversy

Showalter on injuries, Janish and a tarp controversy
Orioles manager Buck Showalter was waiting this afternoon to gather more information on Zach Britton's throwing session, which took place on flat ground and on the bullpen mound. Showalter noted how Britton's sprained ankle is feeling better today. "He did some things he couldn't do yesterday," Showalter said. "I'll get where we are with it after we get through here. I know it's better. Like I said, did some things he didn't feel comfortable with yesterday, so I'm hoping we go in...

Zach Britton on today's bullpen session

Zach Britton on today's bullpen session
Orioles closer Zach Britton threw on flat ground again today, simulating his delivery and far exceeding soft-toss velocity. He headed to the bullpen, attracting a crowd, and threw five pitches off the front of the mound and five on top of it. It's doubtful that Britton is available tonight while recovering from a sprained left ankle, but he's avoiding the disabled list. "I guess you wouldn't call it a regular 'pen," Britton said. "Did a little bit of everything. Feels pretty...

Young allegedly grabbed the attendant by the neck at the Viceroy hotel in Miami after being denied access to a club. Police made the arrest at Young's residence. According to a report, Young answered the door naked from the waist down and was unsteady on his feet....

This, that and the other

This, that and the other
The Orioles are off today, though manager Buck Showalter says it's not really an "off-day," considering that players must report to Camden Yards for the bus ride to the airport and a few guys will be working out. There's going to be a lot of interest in how shortstop J.J. Hardy's left shoulder responds to yesterday's live batting practice session. It's always the next day that proves to be key. I'm asked every day how the Orioles will make room for Jimmy Paredes on the 25-man roster. I...

Yard Work: Working for green at the offseason finish line
Camden Yards is a gem, a rare baseball cathedral that blends classic, retro style with today's version of the national pastime. But its lush outfield grass and manicured infield don't happen by accident. They're the result of a year-round effort by head groundskeeper Nicole McFadyen and her talented grounds crew. Each month during this offseason, Orioles Buzz will check in with McFadyen to see what's happening on the field at Camden Yards as the grounds crew prepares for the 2014...
